Question Pool Transitions

We are entering an interesting but normal period where an existing question pool will be phased out and a new one introduced. Will the application explicitly support multiple pools, or make students aware of this? I don’t see specific mention of it in my review so far.

As I see it, there are generally 2 ways to address this:

  • in-band: add specific support within the app for multiple generations of question pools. Maybe by default utilize questions from the active pool.
  • out-of-band: only support the active question pool. Perhaps put a notice in the app advising students of the transition date and effect on their study.

Apologies if I’ve missed a prior discussion on this; I’m new to the app but tried to find a pre-existing topic.

Hi! You haven’t missed prior discussion. @sonyccd and I have been talking about this face to face and chatting, but didn’t create a topic here. Thank you for raising the question!

This site is still a little young, and this support isn’t yet written in the app. We may just have a cut-over day soon and put up a notification in the app when we do that.

But at least for the upcoming General pool update, and possibly for the Technician update at the end of June this year, the idea is to display which pool you plan to test to, and have both pools of questions available in the app. Explicit and “in-band” display, even though the default selection could be made when you set your target date for testing.

We’re probably going to have to label questions in the forum by which test pool they come from, and manually review cases where the same fundamental question has just been re-worded slightly vs. where it was replaced with a new question for whether to keep discussions separate, move it all together, or add links to related discussion. I think that just has to be manual review on our part.

Thanks and welcome!
